Hudson Trotter - Softball
In July 2024, Hudson represented the U14 Boys Rockhampton District Team at the Softball State Titles in Redlands, earning high praise for his umpiring. His professionalism and fairness were recognised by the Chief Umpire, and he was chosen to umpire a game involving his own brother. Hudson was honoured to umpire the Grand Final and later officiated the A Grade Men’s game at the Rockhampton District grand final. In 2025, he looks forward to expanding his skills during a four-month stay in the USA.
Sam Loughnan – Basketball
In 2024, Sam had an outstanding year in refereeing, being selected to officiate the Gold Medal Championship game at the Under 16 Boys State Championships and the Under 14 National Club Championships (Basketball Australia). He also refereed Rockhampton Cyclones preseason games (NBL1) and the Queensland State League (QSL) competition. In September, Sam was selected for the National Referee Program for the second time, a crucial step towards officiating in the NBL1.
Megan Matereke - Netball
Megan began her umpiring journey at the end of last season, starting with junior F grades. In 2024, she made significant progress, advancing to umpire Junior A games. Her growth has been exceptional, and she has been identified as a potential National C badge candidate for next year. Megan also gives back by assisting younger umpires who are just starting out, helping them navigate the journey she once did.
Jemima James – Football
With 11 years of playing experience and 2 years of refereeing at Level 4, Jemima officiated 56 matches across various competitive football divisions in 2024, including Junior/Senior Community and FQPL. Her impressive season included officiating major matches such as the Community Women’s Grand Final, FQPL Women’s Grand Final, and FQPL Men’s U23 and Men’s Preliminary Finals. Her outstanding contributions earned her the Football Queensland Central Coast – Assistant Referee of The Year award.
Noel was a long standing Board member and Frenchville Sports Club Chairman for many years. He was involved in a number of sports with his wife Fae and sons David and Paul.
Marley Ellis – Softball
Marley’s dedication to softball during the 2024 season was outstanding, traveling over 3 hours each way from Taroom to Rockhampton to play in three teams: the Under-16 Frenchville Flyers, C-grade Frenchville Flamingos, and B-grade Frenchville Minx, winning the championship in all three. She was named Best Fielder for the Flyers and selected for the Rockhampton Under-16 rep team, competing at the Queensland State Championships. Marley also played a key role in fostering the growth of softball in her hometown by coaching young players. She was selected for the 14U Aussie Drop Bears team, competing in the Babe Ruth World Series in the USA, where her team finished as runners-up, and she was named Player of the Game in the grand final.
Austin Wilson – Basketball
Throughout the representative season, Austin made significant progress, starting as a bench player and eventually earning a spot in the starting lineup. He was invited to the State Performance Program after not initially trialling and went on to join the Queensland North team, competing at the national level. Austin also played for multiple teams, including the Under 16 and Under 18 A-grade Frenchville Panthers, Division 2 Men’s Frenchville Panthers, and the Under 16 Rockhampton Rockets. He was selected for the State Performance Program (Under 16) and was one of the youngest players in the Under 18 program.
Eve Collins – Netball
Eve had an exceptional year, earning selection for both the 16 Years State Age team and The Cathedral College QISSN team, marking her debut in a representative team. She consistently gives her best in everything she does, demonstrating a strong attitude and unwavering dedication. Whether on the field or supporting from the sidelines, Eve’s commitment is evident. She goes above and beyond in training, applying what she learns to her personal practice at home.
Brianna Bloomfield – Wheelchair Basketball
Brianna has shown remarkable resilience and talent throughout the 2024 season. After returning from surgery in 2023, she made an outstanding impact in the A grade team at the Sunshine Coast competition and was selected for the QLD Comets team. Brianna is a dedicated athlete, always striving to improve her skills. A true role model for sportsmanship, she is supportive, friendly, and consistently encourages junior players, showing great promise for her future in wheelchair basketball.
Cooper Sayers - FootballCooper, a new addition to Frenchville this year, made an immediate impact in both the FQPL U23s and Men's Premier teams. His dedication to training, rapid improvement, and coachability earned him a permanent spot in the Men’s Premiers team by the finals. Cooper’s consistent effort, eagerness to learn, and commitment to refining his skills have made him a valuable asset, and he is poised to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
As you know, Brian unfortunately passed away in 2019 and Merril continues the long term commitment that both she and Brian had to the Club in encouraging and supporting many junior sports people in a range of sports.
Frenchville Pioneers U17 - Rugby
The Frenchville Pioneers U17s had a stellar 2024 season, dominating the RCL Junior Competition and going undefeated to secure the U17 Premiership. This victory marks their third consecutive premiership, following their U16 competition wins in 2022 and 2023. Their exceptional form and teamwork have solidified their legacy as an outstanding group of players, continually setting higher standards for junior rugby.
Junior Division 3 Team – Cricket
The 23/24 season was a significant milestone for our Division 3 team, as they embarked on their first season of competitive cricket. Winning 8 out of 13 matches, this young team, who have trained together at Frenchville for the past three years, showcased remarkable growth and dedication. They consistently absorbed coaching advice, played with great sportsmanship, and encouraged each other to perform at their best. This team truly represents the future of our senior cricket program.
Under-16 Frenchville Frenzy – Softball
The Under-16 Frenzy team, composed of talented and hardworking boys and girls, had an outstanding season, remaining undefeated for most of the year and finishing as minor premiers. Off the field, they are a close-knit group, always supporting the club with grounds and canteen duties. Several team members have gone on to represent Rockhampton, Capricornia, and Queensland, showcasing their skill and dedication to the sport.
Panthers U 12 boys A Grade - Basketball
What an incredible Summer season it was for the Under 14A Frenchville Panthers! With immense pride and joy, we celebrate a historic achievement: our Panthers went undefeated for the entire season, across 13 games, ultimately claiming the coveted club championship. This remarkable accomplishment showcases the hard work, talent, and teamwork that our athletes demonstrated throughout the season.
Frenchville Butterflies Junior D – Netball
The Butterflies had an exceptional season, competing in several carnivals and finishing strong. They placed 4th in the Sullys Carnival, won the Cap Coast and Biloela Carnivals, and remained undefeated throughout the season. The team also earned the titles of minor premiers and premiership winners, showcasing their dominance and skill across all competitions. Their flawless record and consistent performances made them one of the standout teams of the year.
U12/13 Community Joeys – Football
The Joeys had an impressive season, finishing second in the regular rounds and ultimately claiming the Grand Final victory. Throughout the season, several players emerged as leaders in key positions, and the team as a whole showed significant improvement. The coaching expertise of experienced Frenchville coaches played a vital role in their development. The Joeys' commitment to teamwork and their determination to not be intimidated by bigger, more experienced opponents were key to their success.
The Black family have been involved in Frenchville sport from day one of the club, 75 years ago, which is longer than many of our lives so far. Sadly, Mrs Merle Black passed away last year. We were honoured to have Mrs Merle Black as our patron.
Frenchville Panthers (Div 3 Men) – Basketball
This team put in relentless effort throughout the season, maintaining an undefeated record until the finals. These club basketballers played with passion and determination, embodying a unique spirit and a shared love for the game. They consistently showed respect for each other, the sport, and the referees. We are proud of the example they set and the positive energy they brought to every game.
Senior A Mambas – Netball
The team had an outstanding season, losing only two games and finishing second in the rounds. After a challenging loss in the first semi-final against Jetz, they triumphed over Brothers in the prelim final to reach the grand final. In a thrilling match that ended tied at regular time, Frenchville secured a nail-biting 50-49 victory in extra time. This marked Frenchville’s first A Grade championship win in 20 years, achieved without a coach and with guidance from two senior players.
B Men Fire – Softball
The B Fire team deserves recognition for their efforts both on and off the field. Many players in the B Fire team have represented Rockhampton and Queensland at the club level, as well as Rockhampton and Capricornia at the schoolboys level in 2024. Under the guidance of Shane Crouch, they transformed from struggling to outstanding, narrowly losing to the B Men Jets in the final. Their growth and achievements made this season truly rewarding.
Women's Division 1 - Football
The Frenchville Football 2024 Division 1 Women’s team, boasting a combined 223 years of experience, finished second on the ladder and triumphed 4-1 in the grand final against Cap Coast. This team, composed mainly of mums, demonstrated a blend of skill, experience, and passion, showcasing resilience and teamwork. Their consistent performance throughout the season earned them the title of Frenchville Football’s Most Consistent Team of the Year.
Wheelchair Basketball
The Rockwheelers are a remarkable group of individuals of all ages and abilities, brought together by their love for wheelchair basketball. Our success stems from the sportsmanship and camaraderie shared among all participants. We play with passion and determination, continually working to develop the sport and support our local wheelchair basketball program. Through dedication and a welcoming spirit, we foster growth in the sport, ensuring it thrives for everyone involved.
Falcons A Grade – Cricket
The team had an outstanding season, winning both the 62 Sports CQ Club T20 Bash and the A Grade Senior competition. They went undefeated in the T20 Bash, which was played early in the season. In the A Grade 40-over competition, they finished tied for first with Gracemere, securing 7 wins from 12 games. The team then triumphed over Gracemere in a thrilling final to claim the A Grade title, capping off a remarkable season.
Merv was a former president and patron of the club. He was heavily involved in the funding arrangements to finance the first licensed clubrooms here in the late 60s and early 70s. Merv was involved in the legendary bottle drives that saw semi-trailer loads of bottles trucked to Bundaberg every couple of weeks - a great club supporter and a true gentleman.
Travis Applewaite
Travis played a key role in developing the Women's Cricket team, equipping them with the skills they needed in their first year. Under his coaching, the team achieved an impressive third place overall in their inaugural 2023/24 season. For the 2024/25 season, Travis returns as the Women’s Coach. With a solid background in coaching, including previous work with junior teams, he stepped up to lead the Women’s Team in their debut season.
Justin Challen - Softball
Justin had an exceptional 2024 season coaching the Frenchville Under 13 Fever team, where he worked with many new players. He also supported the coaching of all three Under 16 teams and stepped in to coach the Under 16 Frenzy team, who were undefeated minor premiers before their grand final loss. Additionally, Justin coached both the Frenchville C and B men’s teams when needed, with the C men finishing as minor premiers and both B men’s teams reaching the grand final. His dedication was unparalleled, as he never missed a training session or game for either junior or senior teams1.
Ben Greany – Basketball
Ben is currently coaching the Under 18 boys, A Grade, and Division 2 Women’s teams. Recently, he served as Assistant Coach for the Under 12 boys at Rockhampton Jets. Since beginning his coaching journey in 2010, Ben has coached at all grade levels, age groups, and representative levels. He is highly respected and sought after in the basketball community for his calm, patient, and strategic approach. His deep knowledge of the game, combined with a unique ability to inspire his players, makes him an exceptional coach.
Louise Chapman – Netball
Louise has been a dedicated coach for three years, building on a decade of experience managing her daughter’s team. This season, she coached the Butterflies and Trapdoors, both of which reached the grand final. The Butterflies emerged as undefeated champions, while the Trapdoors were runners-up with only one loss. Additionally, Louise led the St Joseph Primary School team to victory in the Challenge Cup and Senior A schoolgirls competition, and she also coached the 11 Years Capricornia School Netball team. Her commitment to excellence and passion for the sport are unparalleled.
Jenny Anderson – Wheelchair Basketball
Jenny has devoted over a decade to coaching and developing the local wheelchair basketball program as the head coach of the Frenchville Rockwheelers. Her coaching journey includes four years as the Queensland Junior Coach and serving as an Australian AIS representative for the Women’s Oceania Wheelchair Tournament. Jenny prioritises player development at all levels and supports inclusion both on and off the court, collaborating with FSC to promote sport and wellbeing within the wheelchair community.
Clayton Rowland – Football
Clayton's 38-year commitment to Frenchville is unparalleled. His dedication to coaching goes beyond personal connections, as he selflessly guides the Frenchville Roos, nurturing young players regardless of their relationship to him. Clayton's adaptability and coaching expertise make him a valuable asset to the club. This season, he seamlessly transitioned from mentoring the youngest competitive players to inspiring the FQPL Men's Squad, pushing them to excel in their pursuit of the Wesley Hall Trophy.
Maree was involved with sport at the club for many years and was also a director on the board. She donated this trophy to honour players who may or may not be a “star” player. Every team needs players who are reliable, enthusiastic and perform week in and week out to get the job done.
Selena Knott – Softball
Selena has been a standout player, competing across all three women's divisions—C, B, and A—and coaching the A women’s team. She represented the club at the Queensland Masters Softball Championships, showcasing her dedication. Selena is the epitome of loyalty and hard work, demonstrating leadership and commitment both on and off the field. A mentor to all, her exceptional knowledge and skill in the game are unparalleled. Whether at games, training, or volunteering, Selena is always there for the Frenchville Softball Club.
Travis Marshall – Basketball
Travis is a dedicated Frenchville Panthers clubman, renowned for his positive attitude and uplifting banter that boosts team morale. He is the ultimate teammate, always finding positivity in every player. Travis played a crucial role in his teams, excelling both offensively and defensively with a team-first mentality. His selfless approach and strong defensive presence earned him the MVP award in the Division 2 Men's competition final.
Joe McGahan – Cricket
Joe is a committed committee member and the club’s secretary, managing his responsibilities alongside his training and family life. His dedication is unmatched, always finding ways to support the club while continuously improving his own cricket skills. This season, Joe delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 622 runs and taking 44 wickets. His all-round ability earned him selections in several representative teams, from Rockhampton to the Queensland Country team. Joe is a true leader, consistently fostering team spirit and supporting the development of others.
Tauri Chapman – Netball
Tauri has played in Junior A1, Senior A Res, and Senior A teams, balancing her commitments across three teams each week while managing her Grade 12 schoolwork and part-time job. Despite the challenges, she excelled, being selected for the Capricorn Claws, Rockhampton 18s, TCC QISSN team, and Opens team. Tauri is passionate about netball, regularly assisting at junior coaching and umpiring clinics, and supporting all aspects of Frenchville Netball.
Dylan Robinson – Wheelchair Basketball
Dylan is a dedicated and influential member of our wheelchair basketball program, always giving his best during training and off-court activities. He not only focuses on improving his own skills but also actively helps other players develop. Respected by both teammates and opponents, Dylan is a positive force within the program. This year, he played A Grade at the Sunny Coast, was selected for the All Star 5, and earned MVP at the Southern Challenge. A natural leader, Dylan leads training sessions when needed, setting the standard for skill and dedication and inspiring the next generation of players.
Tessa Williamson – Football
Tessa is a dedicated and positive influence on her team, always offering support, whether it’s strapping an ankle or encouraging teammates before and during games. She leads by example on the field and in training, embodying team spirit. This year, Tessa also managed and assisted in coaching a Junior Competitive team, with plans to continue next year. Believing the juniors are the future, Tessa strives to be the best teammate, demonstrating the values and opportunities the club offers.
This award was named after Duncan in 1999. He was a cricket tragic who was heavily involved in junior cricket within our club and Rockhampton cricket. Duncan, as his name suggests, fell in love with the game in Victoria after emigrating from Scotland
John Crawford – Rugby
John's unwavering commitment to supporting Junior Rugby in Rockhampton has significantly contributed to the success and development of the Frenchville Pioneers Junior Rugby Club. Through his involvement in competitions and club activities, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, and a strong commitment to the club’s values of integrity, fairness, and respect. John's dedication is unparalleled.
Mark Chirio – Hockey
Mark’s commitment to the club goes well beyond his on-field contributions, with numerous off-field efforts that have made a significant impact. He actively participates in raffles, supports junior coaching, and coaches the J2 Junior team. Mark also organized coaching clinics for both current and future hockey goalkeepers and coached the RHA U11 team, which included players from the Rovers club. His dedication was evident during the Hockey Queensland championships, where he helped with cleaning, field maintenance, and venue security. Additionally, Mark plays in the club's Division 2 team.
Cameron New – Netball
Cameron plays a pivotal role at the club, coaching three teams: Junior D - Terriers, Junior C - Bulldogs (who made the Grand Final), and Senior A Res Raptors (who made the preliminary finals). He is also a key member of the Rockhampton Netball Association Management Committee, helping shape decisions to benefit the entire association, and coached the 14-year Rep team. Cameron actively contributes to the netball community by assisting at events, supporting the junior breakup setup, and attending coaching clinics. Additionally, he serves as a general member of the netball committee.
Vicki Hartley – Cricket
Vicki is the heart and soul of Frenchville Cricket, having dedicated countless hours to the club over many years. Her efforts have been a key factor in the growth of participation numbers, particularly over the last five years. Vicki works tirelessly to ensure families feel comfortable and enjoy the welcoming environment at the club, making her an invaluable part of its continued success and community spirit.
Gemma Apiata – Basketball
Gemma is the ultimate helper, always volunteering and offering her support, even though she is not officially on the committee. This year, she managed two junior teams, ensuring they were well-organised. For the A-grade women's team, Gemma regularly works the score bench and handles jersey washing. She is welcoming to new families in the junior competition, helping them learn score bench duties. Gemma also played a key role in organizing the end-of-season presentation, with her dedication and support greatly appreciated.
Clayton Rowland – Football
This year, Clayton coached two junior teams and assisted with the FQPL Men’s Team, which reached the Grand Final once again. He has been a valuable contributor to raffles, carnivals, and junior events for many years. In recognition of his dedication, Clayton is being awarded Football Life Membership for over 25 years of service and the Frenchville Football Club Person of the Year Award. A retired player and devoted parent, Clayton continues to give back selflessly by coaching, supporting events, and attending junior games. His passion, energy, and commitment make him a remarkable role model for both the club and the local football community.
Jason Robinson – Wheelchair Basketball
Jason is a dedicated player and committee member who takes on multiple roles within the team. As the bus driver, cheer squad leader, and event organiser, he ensures the team is always prepared for competitions. Jason manages team attendance, registration deadlines, and is always available to help wherever needed. Despite health challenges limiting his playing time, he has taken on a key off-court role, managing the B Grade team and preparing to be the player/coach for 2025. His commitment and support are invaluable to the team.
Amanda Crouch
The Crouch name is deeply embedded in both the Frenchville club and the Rockhampton Softball Association, with the family’s long-standing involvement in the sport. While Shane is often recognised for his coaching and sons Locklan, Nicholas, and Kellen for their representative achievements on the field, Amanda is the backbone of both her family and the Frenchville club. Always the first to volunteer, she is frequently the first to arrive in the canteen on Saturdays when Frenchville has canteen duty. Amanda continues to play softball and serves as a mentor to all club members. If something needs to be done, Amanda is often the first point of contact. She has also managed Rockhampton and Queensland junior teams, and her invaluable behind-the-scenes contributions to the Frenchville Softball Club, Rockhampton Softball, and Queensland teams were recently recognised when she was awarded the Softball Queensland 2024 Volunteer of the Year Award. This is a remarkable achievement for a humble, yet incredibly hardworking individual.
Francis Brady was the Club’s first treasurer in 1954 and Jessie was the first female appointed as a Director (a position she held for 30 years). They both promoted junior sports with the vision that a strong junior base would provide players for the senior teams.
Zafeera Gibson – Rugby Union
Zafeera has demonstrated remarkable talent in both rugby union and netball. She proudly represented Australia as part of the U16 National First Nations Rugby 7s Squad at the World Championships and served as captain for several teams, earning distinctions such as U15 Girls Player of the Carnival. In netball, Zafeera has also excelled, competing at state championship levels.
Riley Roser – Cricket
Riley is a committed young cricketer who hones his skills by training with both his junior team and the senior men's squad. He actively supports Frenchville’s Junior Blasters teams, helps out at Come & Try Days, and volunteers at raffles alongside his dad. Riley’s impressive talent led to his selection in the U15 Central Queensland and Central Infernos teams, and he achieved the remarkable feat of recording the most runs and wickets for Frenchville Division 1.
Jared Mahoney – Softball
Jared demonstrates exceptional dedication to softball, traveling weekly for training and games while actively contributing to the club through working bees, canteen duty, raffles, and grounds maintenance at carnivals. He has proudly represented Rockhampton in the U14s, U16s, and U18s, as well as Queensland in the U14s and U16s, achieving remarkable milestones such as Rockhampton's historic U18 state championship victory and Frenchville Frenzy's grand final win as minor premiers. Additionally, Jared is a qualified umpire.
Gus Loughnan – Basketball
Gus's enthusiasm for basketball shines through in his commitment to training and his support for his teammates. A familiar face at the Rockhampton courts, he continually works to improve his skills. Gus has coached the Frenchville Panthers U10 teams for two seasons, assists with raffles alongside his mum, and has achieved significant milestones, including representing the U16 Rockhampton Rockets, Queensland North, and participating in the State Performance Program. He has now been selected for the U18 Rockhampton Rockets and the U18 State Performance Program.
Keiran Chirio – Hockey
As a goalkeeper, Keiran demonstrates unwavering commitment to his team, attending every training session with dedication and arriving early to ensure thorough preparation. On game days, his encouragement and guidance, particularly in field positioning, help build a strong team dynamic. Keiran has proudly represented Rockhampton and Capricornia in the 13–15-year age group, highlighting his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
Tessa Manning – Netball
Tessa had an outstanding 2024 season, rising to the challenge of playing Senior A and delivering a standout performance as GD during extra time in the A Grade final. She was named MVP for the State Age 16 team and selected for the Capricorn Claws 16s and Capricornia Opens schoolgirls teams. Balancing three games a week, training, school, and a part-time job, Tessa showcased remarkable talent and unwavering dedication.

Chad Charlesworth - Softball
Chad is a rising star in softball, celebrated as one of Queensland's top prospects. In 2024, he represented the Rockhampton Under-18 Boys, Queensland Under-18 Boys, and proudly the Australian Under-18 squad. He also excelled in school competitions, earning selection for the Capricornia, Queensland, and All Australian Schoolboys teams. Off the field, Chad is deeply committed to the Frenchville club, contributing as a coach, trainer, and volunteer at working bees and raffles, exemplifying his dedication both on and off the diamond.
Bella Janes - Basketball
Bella seamlessly transitioned to senior competition, excelling in Division 1 Women for the Frenchville Panthers. At just 17, she earned a place with the NBL1 Rockhampton Cyclones, playing a key role in their championship victory under Coach Drew Fenton. Bella’s talent and composure in a competitive semi-professional league also secured her a spot as a shadow player for the U20 Queensland State Team, highlighting her skill and maturity.
Logan Whitfield - Cricket
Logan had a remarkable season as Vice Captain of the A Grade Senior Men’s team, taking an impressive 72 wickets across all formats. His efforts earned him a spot in the Australian Country Merit Team, reflecting his dedication and hard work. As the team’s key wicket-taker, Logan consistently delivered influential performances, cementing his role as a pivotal player throughout the season.
Summer Laurie – Netball
Summer had an exceptional season, showcasing her talent by earning selections in the Rockhampton 18 Years Rep Team, Capricorn Claws Open Team, Capricornia Schools Team, and the Queensland 19 Schoolgirls Team. At just 17, she played A Grade as one of the main shooters, consistently delivering under pressure. Her dedication to extra practice, including countless additional shots, reflects her commitment to excelling in her role.
Jordan Miller – Football
Jordan was awarded the Frenchville Football Legend's Shield (Players' Player) for the second consecutive year. A key player in the FQPL Men’s Team for several seasons, he consistently attends training and maintains a positive attitude on and off the field. Jordan is known for being one of the team’s leading goal scorers and playmakers, contributing significantly to the team's success.
Adam Schreiweis – Wheelchair Basketball
Adam’s dedication and passion for his sport are evident in his welcoming and supportive nature toward newcomers. His exceptional talent greatly enhances the skill development within the program. Respected by his teammates, Adam consistently gives back by participating in fundraising efforts, attending events, and contributing to his team’s success. He competes as an A Grade player in both the Sunny Coast and Southern Challenge competitions and has been recognized as an All-Star 5 player for the Southern Challenge.
