Wednesday 18th June 2025

Frenchville Sports Club is thrilled to announce the first major winner of Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch, with local angler Jai Hansen hooking himself a $2,500 prize pack, thanks to event sponsor Barra Jacks Rockhampton.

Jai landed one of the 28 specially tagged King Threadfin Salmon released into the Fitzroy River before the competition, making him the first to reel in a prize-winning catch since the competition’s launch in November.

Frenchville Sports Club Chairman Graeme Brady OAM congratulated Jai on his memorable win and said the competition has continued to shine a light on Rockhampton’s unique fishing experiences.

“This is exactly what Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch is all about - bringing our community together, celebrating our region’s incredible natural assets, and creating unforgettable moments along the way. Congratulations to Jai and thank you to everyone who’s supported this event so far,” Mr Brady said.

Rockhampton Mayor Tony Williams said the competition put Rockhampton on the map as the best place to land a trophy-sized King Threadfin.

“We know that Rockhampton has been built into a recreational fishing hotspot with thousands of anglers visiting our region each year to cast a line,” Mayor Williams said.

“We really do have an outstanding natural asset in the Fitzroy River which offers ease of access, outstanding fishing, and really picturesque views."

“I’m really pleased to see Jai picking up the Ultimate Cash Catch and I’m looking forward to seeing the competition return later this year.”

While this season of Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch has officially wrapped up, anglers can look forward to another big season when the competition returns 1st November 2025.

Frenchville Sports Club extends its thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council, Advance Rockhampton, and Barra Jacks Rockhampton for proudly sponsoring this community event.
