Frenchville Sports Club officially launched Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch fishing competition today, inviting anglers from across Australia to cast their lines in the iconic Fitzroy River.
Running from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, this thrilling event offers participants a chance to win big, with a $10,000 cash prize for catching the competition’s tagged King Threadfin Salmon. There have been 25 Threadfin tagged and released for the competition.
Graeme Brady OAM, Chairman of Frenchville Sports Club, emphasized the importance of this competition in fostering community spirit and promoting sustainable fishing practices.
“This is an exciting opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy the Fitzroy River, have fun, and compete for some great prizes. Whether you’re a passionate angler or just fishing for fun, there’s something for everyone.” Mr. Brady said.
Rockhampton Regional Council Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said Council are proud to sponsor this event which builds upon our impressive major events calendar and will continue to help spread the word of our region’s unique tourism offering of chasing trophy sized fish in the heart of the city.
“With Rockhampton’s Recreational Fishing Voluntary Code of Practice in place now for 9 years, this competition celebrates the spirit of fishing whilst promoting sustainable fishing practices in our region during the barramundi closed season from November to January,” Deputy Mayor Wickerson said.
“With its economic, cultural and environmental benefits, fishing tourism is a strong and growing market within the Australian tourism industry, attracting visitors from all corners of the country who are eager to cast their lines and reel in unforgettable memories.”
The competition offers even more chances to win, including a $2,500 bonus prize if the tagged fish is caught outside the competition dates and a $1,000 prize draw for all registered participants, announced at the end of the event.

If the tagged Thready is caught, the angler must contact InfoFish (1800 077 001) immediately with the tag’s serial number for prize verification.
