Frenchville Sports Club Wins State Award for Inclusive Sport Excellence

Tuesday 31st March 2026

Frenchville Sports Club has been recognised on a state level, taking out the Support of All Abilities Sport category at the 2025 Clubs Queensland Awards, while also winning silver in the highly competitive Best Club Redevelopment category.

The All Abilities award acknowledges the Club’s long-standing commitment to inclusive sport through its Rockwheelers Wheelchair Basketball program, one of Central Queensland’s most impactful all-abilities initiatives.

For more than a decade, the Rockwheelers program has provided meaningful opportunities for athletes of all physical abilities to participate in structured competition, develop skills and build confidence through sport. What began as a single team has grown into one of Australia’s strongest regional wheelchair basketball communities, with multiple teams competing across Queensland and athletes progressing to national representation.

Frenchville Sports Club Chief Executive Officer, Damien Massingham, said the recognition reflects the real impact the program continues to have across the region.

“This award represents something much bigger than sport. It’s about creating opportunities, removing barriers and ensuring every member of our community has the chance to participate, connect and thrive.”

“The Rockwheelers program has become a source of pride for our Club and the wider community. Seeing athletes progress to state and national levels while building confidence and connection locally is incredibly rewarding.”

The Club’s ongoing support has included significant financial investment, access to facilities, and the removal of participation barriers through initiatives such as funding transport solutions, equipment and competition pathways. The program now supports athletes from across Central Queensland, including those with paraplegia, cerebral palsy, amputations and spinal injuries, alongside able-bodied players in a truly inclusive environment.

Frenchville Sports Club was also proud to win silver in the Best Club Redevelopment category, highlighting the success of its $25 million transformation completed in 2025.

The redevelopment has redefined the Club as a modern, multi-precinct destination, delivering enhanced dining, entertainment, gaming and community spaces for its more than 39,000 members.

With continued investment in inclusive programs, major infrastructure and community partnerships, Frenchville Sports Club remains focused on delivering meaningful impact across Central Queensland.
