Record Turnout and Remarkable Results at the 2025 Fitzroy River Barra Bash

The 2025 Fitzroy River Barra Bash has cemented its reputation as Central Queensland’s premier fishing event, delivering another record-setting weekend on the mighty Fitzroy. Across three thrilling days, competitors landed 764 barramundi measuring an astonishing 597.1 metres in total, including 273 fish over one metre. Adding to the excitement, anglers also reeled in 111 king threadfin salmon spanning 98.7 metres, once again proving the Fitzroy River’s status as one of Australia’s top barramundi fisheries.

This year’s event brought together anglers from across the country, all drawn to Rockhampton’s net-free zone for a shot at some of the biggest fish in the nation and a share of impressive prize pools.

  • Biggest Threadfin Salmon: Darrin Macfarlane (MMT) – 134 cm
  • Most Metres Threadfin Salmon: MMT (Judd Crompton & Darrin Macfarlane) – 942 cm
  • Biggest Barramundi: Matthew Zahl (Fish Goop) – 131 cm
  • Most Metres Barramundi: Panic Stations (Shane Compain & Terry Ryan) – 3,415 cm

Frenchville Sports Club CEO Damien Massingham said the Barra Bash continues to deliver for both competitors and the wider community.
