What is Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch Competition?

Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch Competition is a fishing event where participants can register for a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize by catching a specially tagged King Threadfin Salmon (Thready) in the Rockhampton Region during the competition period.

Who is organising the competition?

The competition is organised by Frenchville Sports Club Ltd, located at 105 Clifton St, North Rockhampton, Queensland.

When does the competition take place?

The competition runs from 12:01 AM on Friday, 1st November 2024, and concludes either when a winner is verified or at midnight on Friday, 31st January 2025. This provides an exciting opportunity to fish outside of the Barra season.

Where is the competition held

The competition is set in the stunning Fitzroy River System in Rockhampton, showcasing the region's natural beauty.

What if I catch the tagged fish outside the competition dates?

If you catch the tagged fish outside the competition period but land it during the Barra Season, you will receive a bonus $2,500 prize.

Are there other prizes available?

Yes! Every participant is automatically entered into a draw for a $1,000 prize, which will be awarded at the end of the season.

How do I register for the competition?

You can register electronically via the competition website: Frenchville Sports Club. If you cannot register electronically, you can download and submit a registration form to Frenchville Sports Club by one of the methods listed on the form.

Is there an entry fee?

No, entry to the competition is free. However, any costs incurred during participation are the sole responsibility of the participant.

Who is eligible to enter the competition?

The competition is open to all ages. However, participants under 18 years must have permission from a parent or guardian.

How do I win the $10,000 cash prize?

To win, you must be the first registered participant to catch a Tagged Thready, contact InfoFish immediately with the tag’s serial number, and pass the verification process as outlined in the T&Cs.

What is a Tagged Thready?

A Tagged Thready is a King Threadfin Salmon tagged with a special purple tag that includes the phrase "Fishing the Fitzroy," a toll-free phone number (1800 077 001), and a serial number. These fish have been released into a Rockhampton Region waterway.

What happens if more than one Tagged Thready is caught on the same day?

Verification will be done in the order of who contacted InfoFish first. Only the first verified catch will be eligible for the prize.

Are there any fishing rules I need to follow?

Yes, all participants must adhere to local and state government fishing laws and regulations, including using only legal fishing equipment and following guidelines for recreational fishing. Nets are not allowed, except for a landing net used in conjunction with line fishing.

What if I catch a Tagged Thready outside the Rockhampton Region or after the competition period?

You will not be eligible to claim the prize if the fish is caught outside the designated area or timeframe.

What should I do if I catch a Tagged Thready?

Immediately contact InfoFish at 1800 077 001, take several specified photos of the fish, the tag, and the capture method, and submit them to InfoFish for verification. Retain the fish and tag until the final verification process.

Where are the Fitzroy River Public Boat Ramps?

South Rockhampton Access is on Quay Street, Rockhampton City, between South and Francis Streets. This boat ramp is located on Littler-Cum-Ingham Park and has toilet facilities located in the vicinity. North Rockhampton has two ramp access', one at the end of Larcombe Street via Glenmore Road and Macalister Street. This ramp is the oldest ramp in the area and it's recommended to use the newer facilities located at the end of Reaney Street. Access to this ramp is via Bridge Street and Goodsall Street, with the ramp hosting four lanes, a central floating pontoon and an abundance of car trailer parking.

What is the Fitzroy River Voluntary Code of Practice?

The Rockhampton Recreational Voluntary Code of Practice (VCOP) is designed to encourage local and visiting recreational fishers to adopt sustainable and responsible fishing practices while fishing in the Net Free Zone to ensure fish stocks remain in a very healthy state in the system. Where is the designated fishing area for the Rocky’s Ultimate Cash Catch Competition?

Fishing boundaries can be viewed by clicking the FISHING ZONE link. If you are found to be fishing outside these boundaries you will not be eligible for the prize.
